Best 9 Tips for Kids👶 on your Wedding Day

Cute chaos or a smooth party? It's all about the preparation...

Having kids at your wedding can be so much fun – but only if you plan ahead a bit. With the right approach, they’ll feel included, entertained and happy… BUT will you feel happy too? Here’s my advice based on what I’ve seen at weddings.

1. What moments do you want to share only with your partner? 👰🤵

For example, your first look. It’s such a special, emotional moment – you probably don’t want a toddler tugging at your dress or crying in the background. Decide if that moment is just for the two of you, or if your little one needs to be there. Do this for the entire day. What about walking down the aisle? Some kids get shy or overwhelmed when all eyes are on them. Having a plan B or an adult to walk with you can prevent a lot of stress.

2. The ceremony

Let’s face it: ceremonies can be long and boring for kids. Maybe give them something small to do (like handing over a drawing), or let them join in later when it’s more relaxed.

3. Provide entertainment

A craft table, bubble blower, coloring books, Lego or even a play corner makes a huge difference. You know your kids and what keeps them busy. Keep their hands busy and you’ll hear a lot less “I’m bored!”

4. Hire a trusted sitter 👩‍🍼

Someone who knows them and generally knows how to handle children is a must. She will step in when needed, so you and your guests can enjoy the moment without worries.

5. Expect the unexpected

Crying, tired children or simply overstimulated – it’s all part of it. Set up a cozy spot for naps or rest, and make sure someone is ready to take them away when they need a break.

6. Choose the right part of the day 🕒

They don’t have to be there from start to finish. The reception is usually more fun and relaxed – perfect for kids to run around, play and be themselves without being shushed every five seconds.

7. Give them a small task

Let them throw flower petals, carry a sign, hand over a gift or rings (with help), they can even help decorate the table. It makes them feel important and provides incredibly cute moments. The Perfect Wedding has an extra tip for this.

8. Accept that things don't always go as planned 🙃

Sometimes they just don’t want to participate – even when you imagined it differently. That’s okay. When you stay flexible and open-minded, everyone enjoys it so much more.

Hopefully this clears things up. If you want to know more about how I deal with children on a wedding day, drop me a line.
