9 Common Mistakes ❌ When Booking a Wedding Videographer

Looking for a wedding videographer? Amazing! But before you book someone, here are 9 common mistakes couples make – and how you can avoid them. These tips can and save you a lot of stress.

1. Booking the wrong duration

Some couples only book their videographer for the ceremony and part of the cocktail hour. But then you miss all those raw, beautiful moments, like getting ready in the morning. It’s not about putting on your jacket… it’s about the pure, proud emotions of your mother when she sees you, the nerves as you think about what the day will bring, and the connection with your family. It’s not just about the rings and the first dance… it’s about the in-between moments – like these. Chances are, you’ll want more coverage than you first imagined.

2. Choose based on price only

Budget matters, but going for the cheapest option can end up being the most expensive mistake – especially if you end up with a video that misses those raw, important moments described in point 1. You don’t want awkward angles, or simply a film that doesn’t reflect you. You can find info about my pricing here..

3. Don't watch full movies

It’s easy to scroll through highlight reels, but take the time to watch at least a few full wedding films. Do you find yourself bored halfway through? That’s a red flag – you want a film that holds your attention vastfrom start to finish. Here’s one that will definitely resonate with you, full of those meaningful in-between moments!

4. Only watching the first video on their website → That top video? Usually their best work. Dig deeper. Watch a few more. If the rest feels inconsistent or doesn’t move you in the same way, take note.

5. Not scheduling a video call or meeting  → Your videographer is by your side on one of your most intimate days. You need to feel comfortable. A quick video call helps you see if there’s a “click” — and trust me, that chemistry matters on the day. Curious about my availability? Send a message via this link..

6. Sticking to your own music without flexibility

Got a specific song in mind? Perfect! Some of the best films include music suggestions from couples. Here’s an example:

But stay open-minded. Some songs may feel special to you, but they might not work well for the edit. Share your ideas, and then let the videographer work their magic – they know how to create a seamless story.

7. Not asking practical questions

When will you receive your film? What if it rains? Do they use backup equipment? How do they work together with your photographer? These are all important questions to ask beforehand to avoid confusion or disappointment.

8. Booking based on recommendations alone

Your cousin may have loved their videographer – but that doesn’t automatically mean they’re the right fit for you. Let recommendations inspire you, but always trust your own instincts and do your own research.

9. Not asking how they handle audio and lighting

Good audio is just as important as video. Ask if they use microphones. How do they deal with wind, low light, or background noise? Poor audio is one of the hardest things to fix later. You don’t want a film where your vows or your father’s speech can’t be heard. I once filmed a wedding on the beach with heavy wind, but thanks to my techniques and equipment, it still turned out perfectly. Check it out here..
