Best 9 Tips for Kids👶 on your Wedding Day
Adorable chaos or a smooth celebration? It’s all in the planning..
Having kids at your wedding can be so sweet—but only if you plan a little ahead. With the right approach, they can feel included, entertained, and happy… BUT will you feel happy too? Here’s my advice from what I’ve seen on weddings.
1. What moments do you want to share with your partner alone👰🤵
For example, your first look. It’s such a special, emotional moment—you probably don’t want a toddler pulling on your dress or crying in the background. Decide whether that moment is about just the two of you, or if your little one should be part of it. Do this for the entire day. What about walking down the aisle or entering the ceremony space. Some kids get shy or overwhelmed when all eyes are on them. Having a backup plan or an adult walking with them can save a lot of stress.
2. the ceremony
Let’s be honest: ceremonies can be long and boring for kids. Maybe give them something small to do (like hand over a drawing), or let them join later when things are more relaxed.
3. Plan for entertainment
A craft table, bubbles, coloring books, lego or even a toy corner makes a huge difference. You know your kids and you know what keeps them occupied. Keep their hands busy and you’ll hear a lot less “I’m bored!”
4. Hire a trusted babysitter 👩🍼
Someone who knows them and knows how to handle kids in general is a must. They’ll step in when needed so you and your guests can just enjoy the moment without worry.
5. Expect the unexpected
Crying, tired kids, or just sensory overload—it’s all part of it. Set up a cozy spot for naps or chill time, and make sure someone’s there to take them when they need a break.
6. Choose the right part of the day 🕒
They don’t need to be there from start to finish. The reception tends to be more fun and relaxed—perfect for kids to run around, play, and be themselves without shushing every five seconds.
7. Give them a small job
Let them throw petals, carry a sign, hand over a gift or the rings (with help), they can even help decorate the table. It makes them feel important and adds some seriously cute moments to the day. The perfect wedding heeft nog een extra tip hiervoor.
8. Be okay with it not going to plan 🙃
Sometimes they just don’t want to participate—even if you imagined it differently. That’s okay. If you stay flexible and open-minded, you’ll all enjoy it so much more.
Hope that clears it all up. If you want to know more about how I go about kids on a wedding day, send me a message.
